A wildlife and sloth sanctuary in La Fortuna
Proyecto ASIS is a wildlife and sloth sanctuary in the rainforest of La Fortuna de San Carlos, near Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica. Since 2002 our team has cared for rescued animals and welcomed visitors from around the world, rated 4.8 stars by more than 2,000 travelers on TripAdvisor and 639 on Google.
Every animal here arrived because of injury, illegal trafficking or human contact. Our guides introduce you to each one: where they came from, what their care involves and what role their species plays in the rainforest. Sloths are the exception, they live wild and free in our private reserve, and we never keep them in captivity. Tours run in small groups, Monday to Saturday, with online booking and instant confirmation.

- Wildlife Tour — 1.5 hours · from $40. A guided walk through the sanctuary to meet rescued monkeys, macaws, toucans and more with a naturalist guide.
- Wildlife Tour + Volunteer — 2.5 hours · from $60. The tour plus hands-on work with our animal care team, preparing diets and enrichment.
- Full Day Tour — from $95. Sloth tour, wildlife tour and volunteering in a single day.
- One Night Homestay — from $145. Stay with a local family and share daily life in the community.

Where to find us
Proyecto ASIS is in La Fortuna de San Carlos, Alajuela, Costa Rica, a short drive from downtown La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano area. Search Proyecto ASIS on Google Maps or Waze.
Tours: Monday to Saturday at 8:30 am, 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. All tours require a reservation, which you can make online with instant confirmation or by contacting us directly.
How long does a visit take?
Most tours last about 1.5 hours. The Wildlife Tour + Volunteer runs up to 2.5 hours, and the Full Day Tour covers a whole day.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes. The trails are easy walking and the tours are especially popular with families. Children aged 5 to 9 pay a reduced rate and children under 5 are free.
Is Proyecto ASIS a zoo?
No. We are a wildlife sanctuary. Every animal in our care arrived because of injury, illegal trafficking or human contact, and your visit supports the cost of their care and rehabilitation.
Can I volunteer?
Yes. We run half-day volunteer programs alongside our daily tours, plus long-term volunteer and service-learning programs for individuals and groups.
